Bala Vihar classes provide spiritual and cultural orientation to children of the modern age. Swami Chinmayananda created the Bala Vihar system to enable parents to raise children with a reverence for Indian culture, to create self-confidence and inspire children to serve and act cheerfully. Bala Vihar provides children an atmosphere to grow with noble ideals and fulfil their potential. Trained volunteers sevaks conduct interactive and fun value education classes drawing from timeless Indian Scripture Mahabharata, Bhagavatam, Puranas and the Ramayana , Vedic philosophy and other facets of Hindu culture. The stories, games, celebration of festivals and creative activities enable children to connect with Indian culture in an engaging way. The Sanskrit prayers, bhajans and chanting give them a solid grounding in Hindu culture and the eternal values presented in story form are drawn from the vast gamut of Indian Scripture.

Education: My Love for Chinmaya Mission
Suddenly everything came to a standstill for me. My whole life, I had loved, respected and revered him. As I grew up, he taught me math and drawing. We would discuss everything from politics to philosophy, religion and astronomy. He was my role model. I vividly remember his fascination with the perfect creation and management of our universe by Lord Krishna. Always brimming with optimism, he was loving, caring, inspiring and compassionate to everyone. He always performed his duties to the best of his abilities and in full surrender to the Divine. After traveling to India for the funeral rites with my husband, mother-in-law and son, I returned to the US with a heavy heart.
Bala Vihar aims to inculcate in our children and youth a reverence for our ancient culture, and inspire them to live up to it with correct understanding. To create self-confidence so that they are able to serve and act cheerfully. To generate personal discipline, dynamic leadership, and true affection in all their contacts. To develop a healthy resistance against temptations in the environment in which they grow. In Bala Vihar, the rich cultural heritage of India, including moral values, are taught to children and youth at different levels, using the medium of stories, drama, arts, crafts and discussion. Children are also taught popular Bhajans and Slokas.
Prayer is the instrument that tunes our mind to the Divine. In our culture, each prayer has its role and purpose. Hence, with regular chanting and a proper understanding of the meaning of the prayer we can transform ourselves. Illustrated colourfully to captivate the mind of children.
