Nirvana 's influence was so immense, it's easy to forget just how little music they recorded. There were only three official LPs, a handful of EPs, a smattering of singles and one-offs. Sadly, out of the songs we compiled for this list, the highest concentration are from 's With the Lights Out , an expansive box set of rare and unreleased cuts. Featuring drummer Chad Channing, this clip features the band mucking about in New York City, loading and unloading their van, and Kurt Cobain buying a hot dog from a street vendor while sporting a creepy plastic mask. Directed by Kevin Kerslake and filmed two days before the band left the U. During the clip, the band remain largely obscured by sheets of water, while a dog sporting an Elizabethan collar ambles about their feet. With a large chandelier on set, Cobain does what any right-minded person would do and swings about like a hero in thrift store attire. This cheap and cheerful video — read: there was no particular concept — was made to promote the compilation Incesticide. It all started with a simple advert.

As for how the name came about, it all starts with a trip to the grocery store and a can of deodorant that caught Hanna and Vail's eye. We were just hanging out and getting drunk. It's called Teen Spirit! Video: YouTube. We were both joking around because the name looked so funny. I mean, who names a deodorant Teen Spirit? What does teen spirit smell like?
